TIU Time!

Wellness after 45

April 30, 2021

has significantly changed.  The sheer hours of video chats I'm on and the length of my workday to connect with teams in Europe and Asia Pacific has had a large impact on my schedule and added a significant workload which increased my fatigue and stress levels. I quickly found that finding ways to combat this stress and all the sedentary computer time was going to be super important to make it through the year without packing on pounds and feeling like poop.

While it isn't always easy and some days means working out at 530 a.m. before my first meeting at 6 a.m. or fitting in mini workouts throughout the day when a video call ends early, I've learned to embrace this schedule and prioritize my workouts over other things. I forgot how working out helps you feel so much better in so many ways.  It boosts my energy, clears my mind, ups my confidence, and just pumps those great happy endorphins through my system! What's better than that! My workout wear and sweatshirts have become my "new look" at work.

program was very helpful this past April when I injured my back which and hip and needed to ease into stretching as it healed.  I really feel that this program helped me heal and got me ready to ease back into my regular routine.

You can find a TIU series that meets your needs and length of time you want to commit to a program.  This can be anywhere from one week to eight. Along with the exercise videos, a lot of these programs come with menu plans that adjust to different dietary restriction and include shopping lists, meal prep guides, and recipes.  The Tone It Up nutrition model follows lean, clean, and green guidance.  Their recipes are yummy and spouse approved! Their smoothies and tray bakes are among some of our favorites at home.  While there is a subscription cost for their app, $14.99 a month or $99 for the year, they do offer a free trial subscription and also have sales a few times a year where the monthly fee is sometimes reduced. For me, Tone It Up has been totally worth it.  I would highly recommend TIU for beginners and intermediate fitness fans.  For those of you that may be more advanced or have been working out consistently for awhile, you will definitely find workouts to add to your weekly routine but may not find these workout programs challenging enough without adding to them.

If you starting out your own fitness journey or just looking for something new to add to your routine, check out Tone It Up.  Whether through their Instagram page or their app, you will find a supportive group of women doing so much for their community.  If you try it out, let me know what you think!

Stay tuned for other fitness programs I've been testing out over the past year!

Booty Band Ready!

It took many of my co-workers a few weeks to recognize me without my signature hairdo's, makeup, and fancy vintage attire that always stood out at a tech company full of flip flops and shorts, but living in my gym clothes gave me no excuse for not getting my body moving!

After not having exercised consistently for quite awhile, I made sure to work into it slowly, starting with programs that included workouts at different levels.

So I returned to an old favorite, the gals from Tone It Up.  I've followed the Tone It Up gals, Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott, since they started posting videos on YouTube back in 2015/16 and joined their Facebook group of gals from across the states.  When their website launched followed by their TIU app, I stayed connected with them through the recipes and workout programs the app included.  During the pandemic, this team of amazing women was thinking about all of us at home and started Instagram lives that anyone could join.  Super fun, with great music, and a variety of workout styles these workouts were scheduled each week and saved incase you couldn't make the time. This really got me back into the swing of things as the summer of 2020 quickly approached and if you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw many of the Tone It Up workout programs I completed over the last year. Some of my favorite programs the TIU team offers on their app include the Summer Tone Up, Love Your Body Series, and most recently, the 14 Day Yoga Sculpt. This last

Smoothie Bowl!!

As I've gotten older the need for exercise has become veryevident. My metabolism is at a snails pace, I feel stiff in the morning, and certain foods make me bloated and root-a-toot-tooty!

Pre-pandemic I didn't prioritize my workouts. Between traveling the country for work, spending time sitting in traffic getting to and from the office, then coming home to make dinner, zone out with the TV, and then get to bed in order to do it all over again the next day, I wasn't very dedicated when it came to consistently scheduling a workout into my day. Along came the pandemic...

I am extremely fortunate that I work for a company where I am able to do my job remotely and have had the opportunity to work globally on projects I might not have otherwise.  I think about this every day. With that said, my schedule
