While animal prints have been a mainstay throughout fashion history, it's dominance in design continues as it come back into fashion decade after decade. From the fur trim of 1930s suits, hats and muffs in the 1940s and 50s, to this gold satin lined faux-fur cape of the 1960s, leopard print in particular can add just the right dash of pizazz to make a statement when mixed with designer basics.  I am always surprised at the number of compliments I receive on this cape, whether mixed with cigarette pants or a black knee length dress, it is one of my favorite go-to pieces.

To style this look, I've paired the vintage cape with second hand purchased Dolce & Gabbana pants, a Givenchy quilted belt bag, Chanel FW2018/19 ballet flats, and pair of Elizabeth Taylor simple gold hoops similar to those of the 1950s.  Under the cape I'm wearing a simple boatneck black mid-sleeve knit.  Perfect for the cooler Spring weather in Paris where this picture was taken.

When shopping for a vintage faux-fur, watch out for matting.  Depending on the age and how the item was stored, synthetic fur may become brittle and mat. Be careful with heat as it may melt the fabric and create matted patches. There are many vintage leopard print coats and capes out there, so take your time and find one that you love!
